CONSTRUCTION SITE SECURITY

There are practices and steps that can be taken to deter or minimize loss or damage to equipment by thieves and vandals.

§         Remove keys from attended machines and lock them in security boxes when closed for business.

§         Alarm all major pieces of equipment with alarm systems.

§         Attach, secure and lock all anti-vandalism and anti-theft devices on all machines not protected by alarms.

§         Post warning notices on machines advising that all vehicle identification numbers {VIN} and serial numbers are recorded.

§         Keep storage yards well lighted and fenced, with only one entrance.

§         Request police to make frequent area checks when closed.

§         Immobilize equipment: such as removing distributor rotor, lowering blades, buckets, and remove battery and electric starting systems when equipment is not used daily. Lock up at night.

§         Use hardened steel punch (or etching tool) to duplicate numbers in at least two places-one obvious, one hidden.

§         Record all serial numbers and identification numbers. Take photos of equipment. Keep accurate inventory.

§         Secure all shanties and storage buildings at home base and jobsite with alarm system.

Install (GPS) Global Positioning System on high dollar equipment.
