GENERAL FIRE PROTECTION GUIDELINES

By following safety procedures your employees can prevent fires and save lives.  Small attention to details can reap big benefits and save your business time and money.  The following guidelines can assist in increasing the awareness of your employees to potential exposures:

§         Keep equipment and machinery clean and in good operating condition. Implement a scheduled maintenance and inspection schedule

§         Maintain an adequate number of fire extinguishers and inspect them monthly.  All employees should be trained in the safe use of fire extinguishers

§         Limit quantities of flammable materials to a one-day supply and make sure they are in appropriate safety containers. 

§         Keep work and storage areas clean and free of debris.  Maintain clearance around all heating equipment to avoid ignition of combustible material

§         Inspect heating, air conditions and ventilation systems annually

§         Replace any temporary wiring with approved permanent wiring installed to code 

§         Keep fire exits and escape routes clear and well marked.

§         Limit smoking to designated areas and have appropriate receptacles accessible.
