SWIMMING POOL SAFETY The most common type of fatality is accidental drowning. Unfortunately, the victim is often an infant, not under supervision, who falls into the pool. Basic pool safety should include: § Completely fenced pool with minimum six foot fence § Self closing, latching and locking gates. Gates must close automatically and daily inspections should be made to ensure tenants do not keep gates blocked open. Regular maintenance and inspection should be performed to confirm adequate operation of the self-closing mechanisms § Emergency equipment easily accessible § Inspection and control of slippery surfaces § Warning signs posted § Regular sanitation and testing including adequate recordkeeping § Pool drains are all properly protected
