ACCIDENT ANALYSIS

Proper accident analysis involves the gathering of facts, arranging them in a useable format and analyzing what transpired.  It is important to determine both the primary cause and any contributing causes.  An investigation should include:

§         Checking the driver’s record for similar occurrences

§         Review training of the driver, length of service and attitude

§         Were there any previous indicates which should have warned of an impending accident

§         Evaluate scheduling and routing

§         Review maintenance records for any indication of improper procedures.

§         Is equipment appropriate for the task

§         Evaluate conditions related to the vehicle’s cargo

A detailed investigation helps to indicate the areas in which either specific or general corrective action should be taken.
