Drosselmeyer and Jockey Mike Smith - The Winners -
$28 for a $2 Ticket

June 5, 2010
by Joe Drape

Abridged by Don

Horses rarely blast away from their rivals in the Belmont Stakes.

An undistinguished colt - Drosselmeyer - went five wide into the stretch.

Jockey, Mike Smith, was riding him for the first time, and thought to himself, "Keep pedaling, keep pedaling.”

Here they were in the middle of the track, grinding away for 45,243 people - in great rhythm - nice and smooth.

At the quarter pole, Jockey Smith smooched in big D's  ear, and gave him a couple of whacks - "...he really kicked in, and kept on going, and going, and going.”

And rewarding those who believed in him $28 for a $2 bet.
